Adopt-a-Highway trash pick-up - Sept. 20-28, 2025

It is time for us to do our part to care for the environment in a tangible way for all to see.

Needed:  Members to step up and step out – it is a nice walk.  Get fresh air!

You make a difference:

1. Choose a section of our 3 mile stretch of M-18. See section list HERECheck with Duane Miller (989-802-2024) to find out what sections are available.
2. Plan to help pick up a section of our area any time during this time period.
3. Read the “Safety Rules” pamphlet to refresh your mind.  It is online HERE.
4. View the safety video on your own on the Adopt-a-Highway website at: http://www.michigan.gov/adoptahighway. Viewing this video is REQUIRED by the state to provide for your protection.
5. Get safety vest(s) – some of you already have vests.  If you need vests, they will be available at our Democratic Headquarters.  Please return them when your section is completed.
6. Get Michigan trash bags from our headquarters also.  They are in bundles of 5.  Generally, one bundle is enough.
7. When your section is completed, call Duane or email him: duane@ddmiller.net   Tell him how many work hours (time used x how many helping you – two people working 1½ hours = 3 hours) and how many trash bags you left along the highway.

Make Good Trouble Rally - July 12, 2025

Make Good Trouble Rally

We had 26 people come out for our protest in front of the Gladwin County Courthouse on Saturday. It was hot and we were rained on twice, but we persevered to stand up and speak out for our Country and our Democracy. Thank you so much to those dedicated 26 people who showed up to “make good trouble.” You are on the right side of History. Thank you also to Jeremy for his amazing job as Security Officer and no incidents!

DETAILS FOR PRIDE EVENT

Good Afternoon,

First of all, thank you so much for your willingness to stand with the LGBTQIA+ community here in Gladwin and in the surrounding area.  Your presence and participation sends a much needed message of love, acceptance, and affirmation.

Here is an overview of the events of June 28th so you all will know where to be and when to be there.

10am-11am Set-up under the Pavilion

Please make sure you arrive at the Gladwin City Parks Pavilion, the first one near the playground, and get your tables set up between 10 and 11am.

11am-12pm: information fair, sign painting, face painting, friendly gathering.

11am is our official start time, people will arrive, peruse your various tables, ask questions, hang out, paint signs, and get their faces painted

12pm: Guest Speakers followed by the march.

We have a couple speakers who will address the marchers before we head out.  The march itself will start in the city park, head downtown, cross Cedar at the Silverleaf St light and head back.  Make sure you have someone stay back to keep an eye on your table.

Afterwards:  We will have sandwiches available for a picnic lunch in the park, a variety of lawn games to play, and rock painting.  The information fair will continue until 2pm or so.

Again, we cannot thank you enough for showing up in this way.  If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact Duane Miller, duane@ddmiller.net  or Julie Harrell-Dennis,  harrell.julie@gmail.com

Best,

Pastor Emily Olsen-Brandt

June Rally - Donuts for Democracy - "NO KINGS"

DATES:  Saturday, June 14 – 11:00am to 1:00pm

The Gladwin County Democratic Party will be holding another protest at the Gladwin County Court House on Saturday, June 14 from 11 am – 1 pm.

We will have our Donuts for Democracy banner, donuts & water.

This is Flag Day so we would like to have lots of American Flags.

We want the focus to be on “NO KINGS” since this is Trump’s Birthday and his military parade in Washington DC.

We can also have other signs there.

Chesaning, MI - No Kings March

Gladwin County Chamber of Commerce Legislative Breakfast

DATE:  Friday, May 9, 7:30 – 9 am – Knights of Columbus Hall on M-18 south of Gladwin.

Cost at the door $25.00.  If you are a member of the party, we will reimburse you $10 of that cost at our meeting on May 27.

Rep. John Moolenaar will be the guest speaker and will take only questions written in advance.  They can be submitted that morning.  We will discuss possible questions at our Coffee Klatch so we can be sure to phrase them well and that they are significant.

GCDP Coffee Klatch

DATE:  Wednesday, May 7, 9 am – Woodland Diner on M-61 just East of M-30.

If you can join us for an informal time together for coffee or breakfast, we would enjoy being with you.

We started doing this a couple of years ago to create more visibility for the party.  If you have a party t-shirt, and are willing to wear it, we encourage you to do that.

Next month we will be going to a restaurant in Beaverton.  We want to move back and forth between our two communities.

May Rally - Donuts for Democracy - A National Day of Action

DATES:  Saturday, May 3 – 11:00am to 1:00pm

We have permission to have a peaceful gathering by the War Memorial on the Gladwin County Courthouse Lawn this Saturday, May 3rd from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m. Join us for a National Day of Action; speaking up for a country that works for everyone, not just a few.

We are calling it Donuts for Democracy and giving away donuts and bottled water. We are only doing signs that are 12×24 in size and nothing derogatory towards Trump or individuals in his administration.

We do want signs that address the issues we are angry about. The goal of this rally is to garner conversation and community with those who may have voted for Trump.

We hope this may be the start of a way of coming together and working for the same cause, which is the support of our Constitution and the restoration of Democracy in our Country.

American Flags, patriotic attire and hats are strongly encouraged.

Please tell your friends and we hope to see as many people as possible there.

An Invitation to Discuss Government

Gladwin County – An open invitation is extended from the Gladwin County Democratic Party  (GCDP) to those in the area concerned about dramatic changes currently taking place in our federal government. This gathering will be held Tuesday, March 18, at 6:30PM at the GCDP office located at 307 W. Cedar Avenue, Suite D. Please find entry door on S. Arcade St. next to alley. Ample public parking is available across the street.

GCDP Chair, Duane Miller, who will facilitate the meeting, promises the agenda on the 18th will contain just two items. Following a sharing of personal concerns and how these changes will eventually affect our own community, attendees will participate in a civil discussion as to how we can work together in response to these changes and, as always, care for those in need in our community. Refreshments, including pizza, will be provided. Email questions regarding this discussion to: Gladwincodems@gmail.com.  High School age and up are all invited.

Thanks

Duane
