We Believe

  • America is a democracy by and for the people: guided by the Constitution and its interpretations, protected by the Boll of Right, and inspired by the Declaration of Independence.
  • These founding documents demand Freedom, Justice, and Opportunity for all Americans, in full and equal measure – regardless of who they are, what they believer, or where they live.
  • The duty of government is to strive endlessly to make the ideals of Freedom, Justice, and Opportunity a reality for all.
  • The purpose of government is to protect our nation, defend out democracy, and to endlessly promote the welfare of each and every one of us.

Our Values

Healthcare

I am committed to ensuring that every American has access to quality affordable health care and treatment, including the use of telemedicine, plus accessibility for rural residents. Healthcare should not be biased based upon gender or race or exclude pre-existing conditions.

Education

I support: Fully Funded Public Education; Broad-based curriculum (including Vocational, Science, Health Technology, Math, Economics, Languages, Art, Music, History, Political Science, Literature, Dramatic Arts, Home Economics, and Life Skills); Continuing Education for Adults, that is robustly funded and affordable classes through our Community Colleges; Support for our Union Member Educators; Expanded Public Education to include Early Childhood Education.

Infrastructure

I support modern infrastructure improvements, which include reliable and affordable internet and cell phone service, better roads, safer dams and bridges, and common-sense renewable energy projects.

Environment and Energy

I strongly support science-based, reasonable, and robust environmental and energy policies that promote clean water, clean air, soil conservation and clean, renewable energy.

Affordable Housing

I believe that affordable housing has become a critical challenge, and if able in my elected role, I will utilize and create the tools necessary to address this problem.

Why am I a Democrat?

I was engaged in conversation with a friend of mine who believes in this country. He believes in its ideals. He considers himself to be a patriot. He also believes that all politicians are corrupt. That they have an angle they are working and none of them, during his lifetime, have ever been looking out for him or others he knows like himself. That is a growing and worrisome sentiment in this country. He asked me “why are you a democrat.”

I have been giving this some thought for the past few days and here is my answer. He may be right that no politician is looking out for him. There may not be any politicians that are willing to stand behind their convictions when the pressure gets too much. If that is the case whose job is it to fix the status-quo. Whose job is it? It is the job of every citizen in this country to make certain that we are actively getting down in the dirt. That we are ready to get muddy to make sure that we have the representatives we deserve.

For far too long Americans have been willing to let politicians run our country without speaking up when their actions do not reflect what is good for them or others like them. Too many let someone else elect our representatives. Many feel that they want to be left alone, “Let me and my family just live our lives, I mean is that too much to ask?” I have heard them say.

Yes, it is too much to ask because it is too much to give away. This country was founded on the idea that the common citizens have the right to determine their own form of government. They have the right to be governed by a collective body of citizens of their choosing. The right to have a just government that works for them, not corporations and the 1% of the wealthiest. We have a duty to make it work.

No one in this country can say, “I alone can fix all our problems.” That statement is inherently un-American. We do not have Kings. When politicians and our government officials do not live up to our expectations it is the duty of those that are dissatisfied to peacefully express their displeasure, make their voice heard, and work for the change they seek.

With that said, why am I a democrat? Because Democrats are the party with whom I have the most in common. Now more than ever, in my lifetime, we have to become engaged citizens, speaking our minds, fighting peacefully for a better tomorrow for everyone – as the founding fathers intended of us.
