Only US Citizens Can Vote
In Michigan, and in every state, only U.S. citizens are eligible to register to vote or cast a ballot in any state or federal election.
There is no evidence to support claims that large numbers of noncitizens have voted in past elections or are registering to vote in 2024.
Federal law requires people to state under penalty of perjury that they meet the eligibility requirements – including being a citizen of the United States – at several critical points. In addition, it is illegal to lie on Michigan voter registration forms, ballot applications, or ballot submission forms.Â

Democrats Deliver for Michigan
Democrats campaigned on protecting our rights, tackling the rising cost of living, and keeping our communities safe — now they’re delivering!
In the last month along, Michigan Democrats: delivered commonsense gun safety bills, restored prevailing wage and repealed right to work laws, protected a women’s right to choose, and passed $1 billion in tax cuts for Michigan working families and seniors.
By empowering workers, protecting our rights, and keeping communities safe, Michigan Democrats are following through on our promises and building a state that works for every Michigander.
